On 22 January 2026, EU leaders met in Brussels for the Informal European Council on defence. ProSieben wanted a reporter live outside the Berlaymont for its 5AM morning news and again at 9AM, fed straight to the newsroom in Munich.
A satellite truck was never an option. On summit days the Schuman security perimeter closes to broadcast vehicles hours before leaders arrive. Our crew was on location at 4AM with a Sony PXW-Z280, an LED panel for the dark January morning and a LiveU LU600, tested across all six modems before first light. What a crew costs in Belgium.
An operator with full broadcast kit starts at €500 a day, and a LiveU LU600 is €350 a day on top. Because we come from The Hague, travel to Belgium is a line on the quote. Live over bonded 4G and 5G. Encoding, international data and monitoring are in the day rate, and in Belgium the unit always goes out with our crew.
What moves the price
A shoot day is 8 hours, travel time included, and we do not book half days. Overtime is charged per hour. After that it depends on crew size, travel, extras like a drone and how fast you need the footage back.
The practical bits.
Belgium has three official languages. Flanders speaks Dutch, Wallonia speaks French, and there is a German-speaking community in the east. Brussels is officially bilingual, and in the EU quarter most of the working day runs in English. Decide the language of your interviews before the shoot: our crews work in Dutch and English, so for French or German interviews your reporter or an interpreter leads the questions.
Brussels has its own film office, the Film Commission at visit.brussels, which is the place to start for filming in public space. Institutional sites work differently: the Commission, the Council and the Parliament each run their own press accreditation, and on summit days the area around Schuman is sealed hours ahead. Do you have a crew based in Belgium?
